TYPES OF DIGITAL MARKETING CAMPAIGNS YOUR SHOULD KNOW

While talking about digital marketing, it seems we are all familiar with the term. We probably should be doing more of it, when we know that there exist over 4 billion internet users worldwide. But how many types of digital marketing are there? Is social media marketing considered “digital”? Or how about radio advertising?

If you are not sure what exactly digital marketing is, you are don't need to feel left out. Google returns over 2 billion (!) results for the search "digital marketing". But before you try to apply all these types of digital marketing campaigns to your business, let's find out what the term means.

What is digital marketing?

Broadly speaking:

"Digital marketing is all marketing activities that use an electronic device or the Internet."

So, implying the basic definition, does it mean it’s any form of marketing that exists online?

Well, the answer is Yes and no. Yes to online and no to 'just online'. Digital marketing certainly encompasses all online marketing activities. However, sometimes,  it might include some offline activities, too.

Below are the main types of digital marketing you should consider for your business.

1. Search Engine Marketing

One of the types of digital marketing that includes PPC or Pay Per Click advertisements is SEM. SERPs or search engine results pages appear to users whenever they search for a given set of keywords using a search engine. Each user receives an individualized results page based on his choice of keywords, the user’s location at the time of searching, and his/her browsing history.

Organic search results are ranked using the search engine’s algorithm and appear in a list. Bringing in traffic to your website via search engines is no easy task, that’s why SEO and PPC work to look into bringing said traffic in through both paid and unpaid means.

2. Content Marketing

A type of digital marketing that focuses on creating, distributing and managing content for a target audience. The creator aims at making the content valuable, relevant, and (ideally) consistent. What the ultimate goal is to drive profitable customer action. Content marketing is part of every other digital marketing activity, be it email marketing, social media marketing or SEO. Content quality should be the core of every other marketing activity you pursue.

3. Social Media Advertising

Within social media advertising, there are several types of digital advertising campaigns that you as a business owner should be running.

You can run ads on LinkedIn, Pinterest and even YouTube. You can advertise on these platforms to generate leads, drive sales, increase brand awareness, and reach all types of people.

4. Affiliate Marketing

The process of paying for conversions is called affiliate marketing. Imagine hiring a salesperson for your product or service. You determine the rate for affiliate marketing and your affiliate earns a commission. You only pay for conversions. And boom! this means there is no upfront cost to affiliate marketing. Many bloggers or e-commerce websites use affiliate marketing.

The affiliate represents your brand, so you want them to carry your brand’s message close to them and thus you want to discuss all terms and conditions beforehand.

5. Remarketing/Retargeting Advertising

Ever wondered how the internet knows that you’re interested in buying a product? That avocado slicer from Amazon keeps popping up on every web page and every other Instagram post!

This type of digital advertising is called remarketing or retargeting. Once a user shows interest in a product you can gather that data to use to your advantage in the future.

Businesses retarget through emails as well as through social media and search engine marketing.
